Beginner mistakes to avoid before you order

Almost every expensive lesson in agent shopping is avoidable. Here are the traps beginners fall into most, why they hurt, and the one habit that prevents each. None of this requires experience — just doing it in the right order.

1 · Judging by item price alone

Why it hurts: a "$12 find" can land at three times that once domestic shipping, service fee, and international shipping are added.

Fix: run every order through the landed-cost estimator first.

2 · Approving QC blindly

Why it hurts: once a wrong or defective item ships, a cross-border return usually costs more than the item.

Fix: use the QC Photo Decoder and ask for a re-shoot when unsure.

3 · Ignoring chargeable weight

Why it hurts: a light-but-bulky jacket can cost as much to ship as something heavy, because volumetric weight wins.

Fix: understand chargeable weight and let OSSbuy pack efficiently.

4 · Shipping items one by one

Why it hurts: you pay base handling and volumetric cost repeatedly instead of once.

Fix: let items gather in the warehouse and consolidate into a single parcel.

5 · Trusting the size number, not the CM

Why it hurts: factory sizing rarely matches your usual EU/US label; the item arrives too small or too big.

Fix: measure a garment you own and compare to the seller's CM chart before ordering.

6 · Expecting a guaranteed delivery date

Why it hurts: customs and peak seasons add days; a missed "expected" date causes needless panic.

Fix: treat freight-estimate times as ranges, not promises, and pick a line to match your patience.

7 · Skipping protection on valuables

Why it hurts: if a high-value parcel is lost or damaged without cover, there's little recourse.

Fix: weigh Loss & Damage protection for anything you'd be upset to lose.

8 · Keeping no records

Why it hurts: without the seller screenshot and order details, disputes are hard to win.

Fix: screenshot the listing and save order numbers the moment you buy.

9 · Submitting a parcel without rehearsing

Why it hurts: you find out the international-shipping figure only after you've committed the parcel.

Fix: use OSSbuy's Rehearsal to preview shipping first, then submit.

10 · Re-buying what you could forward

Why it hurts: if you already bought an item elsewhere, ordering it again through an agent wastes money.

Fix: use Forwarding — ship your own parcel to the warehouse and consolidate it instead.

The meta-habit: do things in order — discover, estimate, order, inspect, consolidate, ship. Rushing any step is where the money leaks out.
